1. Press Conference: Minnesotans Get Ready to Protest in Chicago
Friday, May 18, 3:00 p.m. Mayday Books, 301 Cedar Avenue, Minneapolis.
A hundred Minnesotans are taking buses organized by the Anti-War Committee (AWC) and WAMM to Chicago to protest the NATO and G8 summit meetings. Come hear from Meredith Aby, Coleen Rowley and Sarah Martin why Minnesotans are mobilizing to attend this important national protest. Supporters are encouraged to attend. There will also be sign making materials so you can make a sign to take to Chicago. Organized by: AWC and WAMM.

2. WAMM Walk Against Weapons!
Saturday, June 2, 10:30 a.m. Meet at Bakers Square, 928 Prairie Center Drive, Eden Prairie. Participate in the annual WAMM Walk Against Weapons, a three-mile walk from Bakers Square to Alliant Techsystems (ATK) in Eden Prairie. The Walk Against Weapons is a protest and fundraiser for WAMM and is in collaboration with AlliantACTION. Use the pledge form and start raising funds today! Organized by: WAMM. 3. A Town Hall on Civil Liberties: Fight for your Right to Dissent
Saturday, June 2, 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. American Indian OIC, 1845 East Franklin Avenue, Minneapolis. In September of 2010, homes of Minneapolis activists were raided and the activist were subpoenaed to a grand jury. The prosecutor’s office said they were looking for evidence of “material aid to foreign terrorist organizations”. This is not the first time that international solidarity activist have been targeted by the government. Please join activist, community leaders and lawyers who have worked on these cases in this townhall as they present on the current state of the repression against our civil liberties and what is being done to fight back. Presentations by: Carlos Montes (California), veteran Chicano rights activist who is currently fighting his own trial against government repression; Mel Underbakke (Florida), educator and activist, National Coalition to Protect Civil Freedoms (NCPCF); Kathleen Manley (New York), attorney with Project Salam (Support and Legal Advocacy for Muslims); Faruq Kaase, outreach director of Minnesota Dawah Institute; Clyde Bellcourt from the American Indian movement (AIM); Colleen Rowley, FBI whistle-blower, Time magazine woman of the year and WAMM board member; Local Activists from the Committee to Stop FBI Repression (CSFR). The presentation will be followed by a meal (donations requested). Sponsored by: NCPCF, CSFR and WAMM. 4. A Talk by Kathy Kelly: “Afghanistan: The Cost of Perpetual War”
Tuesday, June 12, 7:00 p.m. St. Joan of Arc, 4537 Third Avenue South, Minneapolis. Hear how opposition to the war in Afghanistan is growing, even within the U.S. military. In her talk, Kathy Kelly will describe life in Afghanistan today, the growing peace movement in Afghanistan and the U.S. attempts to enter into a Strategic Partnership Agreement with the current Afghan government, which would keep U.S. troops in Afghanistan until 2024. 5. Save the Date: Walk with WAMM: Twin Cities GLBT Pride Parade
Sunday, June 24 at 11:00 a.m. Gather at 3rd Street and Hennepin Avenue and follow Hennepin Avenue to Loring Park. Join fellow members, volunteers, interns, and staff, and walk with WAMM in the annual Twin Cities GLBT Pride Parade. Wear your WAMM gear (shirts, visors, buttons). The Twin Cities GLBT Pride Festival in Loring Park takes place the weekend of June 23 and 24 and features five stages of live entertainment, three food courts, fireworks, history pavilion and more. 6. Breakfast and Presentation: “Honoring the Image of God: Reviewing Torture Jewishly”
Sunday, May 20, 9:00 a.m. Beth El Synagogue, 5224 West 26th Street, St. Louis Park. Following the Sunday morning Hevra Breakfast, there will be a panel presentation and discussion. Rabbi Rachel Kahn-Troster will anchor the panel addressing the spiritual concerns with regard to torture. And balancing the panel with Barbara Frey (Director of the Human Rights Program in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota) addressing the legal perspective and Dr. Steven Miles (Professor and Maas Family Endowed Chair in Bioethics, Center for Bioethics; university of Minnesota Medical School) addressing the medical perspective. A brief question and answer session will follow the panel. All are welcome. This event is part of a weekend of events entitled, The Arthur and Irene Stillman Torah Scholar-In-Residence: “Created in the Image of God: A Jewish Imperative for Human Rights”.
